Blood Markers to Order to Monitor Breast Cancer

Initially I asked my family doctor to order every blood cancer marker I knew of just to be sure I took care of every possible scenario.   They took about 8 vials of blood to fulfill that “order” and I ate up almost all of my diagnostic dollars that I get for the year with my health insurance.   I work primarily for myself and part time so I pay for my own insurance which is great unless you need to have a lot of tests, pathology or blood work done!     I now know that there are only a few key indicators that I will monitor closely in addition to the regular blood panel.     I only wish I had these blood markers done early in my diagnosis so I can compare them to where I am now.    All I know now is that they are all in the normal range.   Were they all not normal before?   I know my protein and Vitamin D levels were low but that is all I know.

These are the blood markers I suggest monitoring for breast cancer.  If any one knows of others – please comment.

  • CA 27.29
  • CA 15.3 (same as 27.29 so redundant – select 27.29 in place of this one)
  • CEA
  • DHEA
  • Protein
  • Vitamin D  (get done every 2 yrs – usually doesn’t change much after you get your levels up with a supplement)
